Simple Pleasures: No. 1 – Hello Hyacinth

Woke up: Ridiculously early after a dreadful night’s sleep and couldn’t go back to the “land of the nod” (how can I still be jet lagged? It is day 5 back in the UK) and was feeling rather sorry for myself re: my sub-optimal REM.

Just this second got up: It is pitch black outside and rather chilly. And I was seriously wondering how I was going to stay awake all day.  Wandered to the kitchen in a daze, switched on the lights and saw that my Hyacinth (a thoughtful Christmas gift from my mum) had not only sprung to life but that it was kind enough to be born into this world matching our roman blinds and calamine paintwork too! It was such a pleasure-inducing moment that I ran and grabbed my camera so that I could share. Even in the depths of winter, nature really is kick ass!:

New blog idea for 2016: Which got me thinking, that even if I saw something “small” and beautiful that I wouldn’t ordinarily write about, this year whenever I see something simple but beautiful I am going to take a few snaps and post my thoughts immediately. I plan to save the thoughts in a new “Simple Pleasures” tab (once I have time to create one!) so that when I am feeling tired / angry / annoyed / sorry for myself / sad (or any combination of the foregoing), I can look back through my album and remind myself that amazing things are happening all the time – I am sometimes just too busy / blinkered to see them.

Note to self for Christmas 2016: Planting Hyacinths in October / November and giving them as Christmas gifts in December is a simple but amazing gift idea! Especially for people that live in a City apartment and don’t have a garden!

Have a lovely day x

    1. Hi “Wake Up in Love” – agree that it is the tiny things in life that can really help give us a spring in our step. Next year I am planning to plant them in separate white potters all the way across my kitchen windowsill. Shame I have to wait about 10 months!! Hope you have had a great start to 2016. Hope to see you here back soon.

    1. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my post and leave a comment! It was my mum’s idea – she made one for me and each of my sisters. Such a thoughtful gift don’t you think. I have just been reading some of your most recent posts. The way you write is absolutely beautiful.
